Is a 1982 Yamaha Vision/XZ550 a good buy?

I guy is selling 1982 Yamaha xz550 for $400. It needs a new battery and a new starter. The bike ran good after we put my buddies battery in it and gave it a running start. This will be my first bike, it seems to be a comfortable weight, though i am on the balls of my feet when stopped (I'm 5'8). I've been looking for a yamaha maxim or a honda cb but happened to stumble across this.
